It is important to note that all locations in Germany are operated by different rental companies, so pick up and return of Motorhomes is always to the same location, without exception. This means that it is not possible to have a one-way journey when collecting a motorhome in Germany.
Because of this, we recommend you do a “loop tour”. Suppliers in Germany allow their motorhomes to travel to all EU countries, including Switzerland and all Nordic countries and some East European countries on application.
Motorhomes in Germany all have manual transmission; there are no automatic models available. The campervans are all current models and may be brand new or at most 1-2 years old. They have air conditioning in the driver’s cab and have a range of extras available for booking e.g.. bedding, child seats etc.
All Motorhome and Camper vans have turbo diesel engines and they are very fuel efficient.
Prices vary between locations and seasons so if you are flexible with your dates we recommend that you book outside of high season to avail of cheaper rates. High season generally runs from July to August and into September in Munich during Octoberfest. We recommend booking campervans in Germany at least 5 to 6 months in advance if you require a date in high season as there is a shortage of vehicles each year in high season in Germany.
Minimum hire period in Germany is 7 days hire without exception. You may rent for a shorter period of time but you must pay for 7 days rental in all cases. During High season in July and August, the minimum rental period is 14 days hire.
All depots are closed on Saturday afternoon and all day on Sunday so you will not get a quotation online for any pick up or drop back rental for a Sunday.
All rental depots are outside the city centres so you will have to get public transport or a taxi to the rental depot. The address will be supplied with your confirmation document after you book.
Motorhome models range from 2 to 6 berth vehicles in Germany and all occupants require a seat belt so a 4 berth models will have 4 seat belts and a 6 berth model will have 6 seat belts. Please note that infants or small children will also have to be belted in, so it is not possible for 5 adults and 2 small babies to rent a 5 or 6 berth vehicle. They would have to rent a 7 berth model.
In all cases you will have to leave a security deposit in case of damage to the Motorhome. You may take out a separate Motorhome excess insurance policy to protect your security deposit at Tips Germany Campervan.
