Venice Motorhome Hire at Venice “Marco Polo” Airport is located on the Italian mainland near Venice, Italy. Marco Polo himself was a native of this unique city.
The airport is connected to the nearby railway station of Venice-Mestre, to the bus terminal of Venice-Piazzale Roma by scheduled bus services and to Piazza San Marco by water taxi.
Venice Motorhome Hire and Venice must be one of the most unique and fascinating cities in the world. Built over 118 small islands, the “Queen of the Adriatic” is most famous for its myriad canals, and the traditional method of travel by gondola. The city is built on wooden piles, sunk deep into the mud. The mineral-rich water flowing past petrifies the wood and turns it into a stone-like substance, holding up the city.
Tourism has been very important here for hundreds of years, one of the major stops of the “grand tour”, due to it’s beauty and unique aspect, as well as for its rich musical and cultural history. Walking (and boating!) are the most popular ways around the city, and there is plenty to see, too much to list! The Venetian villas are a famous attraction of this area, part of the Palladian UNESCO World Heritage Site (which includes much of Vincenza also). St Mark’s Basilica and the Santa Maria della Salute are worth walking around as well. Or why not take a trip on one of the famous gondolas, boating through the ancient canals to view Venice. When you are done, try some Venetian coffee in one of the coffee bars in the city..
Festivals are important here too – the Carnival of Venice is world-famous, with its masks, street theatre, music and mime, attracting visitors from all over the world. The Venetian Film Festival and Venetian Biennale (biannual art exhibition) also attract large numbers.
Venice is the largest car-free zone in Europe, so you won’t be able to bring your motorhome inside, but you can park it at the large car parks on the edge of the city, and take a river taxi or bus in to the centre.
When you are finished in Venice, you can explore the lands that Venice herself used to rule over. Vincenza continues and expands on the Palladian theme. Lake Garda is an easy trip away, with its stunning scenery and clear waters. Cortina d’Ampezzo is an attractive and picturesque alpine town, where the 1956 Winter Olympic Games were held. Further afield, there’s Verona, once Venice’s major competition, Trieste, and Milan. Or move south towards Rome, or else decide to explore elsewhere, and travel to France, or Spain. All of the EU is open to you in a RV/campervan, there are no restrictions. So be careful not to be too enchanted by Venice’s medieval charm; you may find yourself very unwilling to leave!

Hi Mary thanks for your follow up on how our holiday went in Italy. Joy my wife really enjoyed Venice we stayed near the beach (Lido) a great location as we could relax there in the late afternoon when Venice got too busy. The campervan worked out really well as we can do a little light cooking and have drinks on tap.
