Whether you are looking forward to gambling the night away, or you’ve decided to get married in the Marriage Capital of the world, Las Vegas never disappoints.

Las Vegas’ history extends back to the 1800’s. The name Las Vegas means “The Meadows” which refers to huge green areas irrigated by artesian wells, which made it good land for grazing. With the legalization of Gambling in 1931, and the opening of the famous Flamingo Hotel by Bugsy Siegel in 1946, Las Vegas started to become the world famous resort destination it is today.
Las Vegas is located at the southern tip of the State of Nevada, located in a dry basin surrounded by mountains. As befits a desert city, the climate of Las Vegas is hot and dry. The summers are very hot and dry, with abundant sunshine all year round. There is very little rainfall, yet within the city there are a great deal of lawns, trees and other greenery. Because of the extremely low humidity during summer (May through September), and temperatures that can go above 40°C (104°F), you are advised to bring sunscreen and wear loose, light-colored clothing to protect yourself from the sun. Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of fluids during the day – water is best.
As The Entertainment Capital of the World, Las Vegas has an enormous variety and number of attractions for the visitor. Best known for gambling, it is important to remember that, by law, you must be at least 21 to gamble. Even if you are 21, you are still required to bring a valid ID (such as your passport or driving license).
The amount and variety of other attractions in Las Vegas is staggering. Ride a gondola or visit St. Marks Square at The Venetian. Go hiking and rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon on the western side of Las Vegas; there are hundreds of routes to choose from – guidebooks are available. Ascend to the top of the Stratosphere and view the whole city from this birds eye view. Play tennis at one of the many public courts.
If you want to shop, there are few places on Earth better served! Many of the larger casinos include designer shopping areas, and there are numerous outlet malls all over the city, making it easy to shop ’til you drop. A stand out location is the Las Vegas Outlet Center, which has 120 outlet stores and 2 food courts.

Eating out in Las Vegas is a treat, with a huge choice of venues. Try the buffets, the most famous of which are at the Rio, Bellagio, Paris or Aladdin casinos. The Las Vegas Strip has a vast number of restaurants to choose from, including AJ’s Steakhouse at the Hard Rock Hotel, and Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill at Harrah’s. If you want something more adventurous, try Nobu for sushi lovers, or Top of the World at Stratosphere, a revolving restaurant 800 feet above the strip.
Check out Star Trek: The Experience, an interactive adventure based on the TV Series. Shop at the Deep Space Nine Promenade, or have a meal in Quarks Bar & Restaurant. Go on rides, and experience missions such as Klingon Encounter or Borg Invasion 4D. You can even get married here, in fact the center won the 2005 “Best Wedding” award.
